PRE & POST CARE
INJECTABLES CARE
PRE-TREATMENT
-
Avoid Blood-Thinning Medications and Supplements:
-
Stop non-prescribed/optional blood thinners one week before your appointment to minimize bruising or bleeding. This includes:
-
Over-the-counter medications like aspirin, Motrin, ibuprofen, and Aleve (a
-
small dose or two won’t significantly affect results).
-
Herbal supplements such as garlic, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, St. John’s
-
Wort, and omega-3/fish oil capsules.
-
-
Note: If you have a cardiovascular history, consult your medical provider before discontinuing aspirin or prescribed blood thinners.
-
-
Alcohol Restrictions:
-
Avoid alcoholic beverages for 12 hours before and after your treatment to reduce the risk of bruising.
-
-
Event Planning:
-
Consider any upcoming events or photos in the two weeks following your appointment, as bruising can occur.
-
Bruising with botox is usually minor. With filler or Sculptra it can be more significant; please plan accordingly if you have upcoming events or travel.
-
-
Post-Treatment Activity Restrictions:
-
Refrain from scheduling a massage or heavy exercise for 4-6 hours post-treatment to avoid pressure on your face.
-
-
Eat Before Your Appointment:
-
Make sure to have a light meal before your appointment to prevent lightheadedness during the procedure.
-
-
Reschedule If Needed:
-
If you are feeling unwell or have received a vaccine within the past two weeks, please reschedule. A heightened immune response can impact treatment efficacy.
-
FILLER-SPECIFIC CONSIDERATIONS
-
Cold Sores:
-
If you have a history of cold sores around your mouth, let your provider know. Antiviral therapy may be recommended:
-
Valtrex (500 mg) twice daily for 1-2 days before and 3-5 days after treatment.
-
-
-
Active Infections:
-
You must be free of signs or symptoms of any active infection (e.g., colds, flu, UTIs) or recent vaccinations prior to your appointment.
-

WRINKLE RELAXER post-treatment
Avoid for at least 4 hours:
-
Rubbing your face.
-
Using a face cradle for a massage.
-
Exercising. Exercise can resume after 6-8 hours.
-
Hot saunas or baths.
-
You may apply makeup to the area after 4 hours
What to Expect:
-
Muscle relaxers take 3-7 days to start working, with peak results day 14.
-
Results typically last 3-4 months, but note:
-
After day 14, the effects will gradually wear off.
-
Movement often returns around weeks 8-10.
-
Your next treatment will likely be due between weeks 12-16.
-
-
Remember – Botox stops the motion that makes the wrinkle it doesn’t make the wrinkle go away. If you are hoping to erase lines, that can take months to years and may also require other treatment modalities AND regular Botox treatments.
Touch-Ups:
-
Scheduled between days 12 and 21 post-treatment.
-
Additional units may be required for ideal results.
-
-
No touch-ups will be performed beyond the 21-day mark.
-
If you notice excess movement after day 21, we can adjust your dose at
-
your next appointment. This is normal and not considered a “failure.”
Movement Goals:
-
Complete immobility isn’t natural. The goal is to minimize wrinkle-causing
motion, not to make you "frozen" for 3-4 months.
Bruising:
-
Bruises may occur despite our best efforts. They generally heal within 7-14 days.
-
You may use arnica to help speed up the healing process, though research does not demonstrate it improves bruise resolution.
filler
post-treatment
Avoid for at least 3 days:
-
Using a face cradle for a massage.
-
Exercising strenuously. Exercise can resume after 24 hours or when swelling improves.
-
Hot saunas or baths.
Special Care Instructions:
-
Avoid significant movement or massage of the treated area unless directed (e.g., Sculptra).
-
You may gently apply makeup to the treatment area after 4-6 hours.
-
Filler can feel lumpy and bumpy for weeks. Just let it be and if it is visible or is bothering you after 4-weeks, please make an appointment so we can evaluate and possibly treat.
-
Lip Fillers:
-
Lumps and bumps are normal for several weeks.
-
Avoid using a straw for a few days
-
Do not ice or massage your lips, as it is unnecessary and potentially harmful.
-
Swelling Management:
-
Only if you’d like, apply a cool compress (e.g., a damp washcloth) for 15 minutes every hour. Swelling peaks at 8 hours and then resolves over hours to days
-
Use Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Advil (ibuprofen) for discomfort.
-
Sleep face-up and slightly elevated to minimize swelling.
-
Minimize heavy exertion until swelling resolves
Sculptra
-
Please massage per your provider instructions
-
At minimum, massage with even pressure the night of your treatment, the following morning, and the following night.
Bruising:
-
Bruises may appear 1-2 days after treatment and resolve in 7-14 days.
-
For significant bruising, we may offer laser treatment the next day (not for
lip bruises).

Additional dermal filler notes
Dermal fillers last, on average, 6-12 months. It is recommended at the time of your treatment to schedule your next appointment for optimal anti-aging benefits.
The most typical side effects (bruising, swelling, redness) are temporary and will resolve. Lumps and bumps are normal and almost always resolve without intervention within 2-4 weeks. If after 4 weeks something is visible, we can schedule a time to be assessed.
sculptra
post-treatment
Remember to massage your face 3×3 = 3 times a day for 3 minutes to avoid formation of collagen lumps and bumps. Your face will feel sore and bruisy and will improve each day.
PHOTOFACIAL, MICRONEEDLING, AND CHEMPEEL CARE
PRE-TREATMENT
-
Use your prescribed pre-treatment skincare regimen for 4-6 weeks prior to your appointment. We know medical-grade skincare preparation is critical to treatment safety and efficacy. Please understand that we may not be able to do your procedure without proper preparation for your own protection.
-
Avoid sun tanning, sun exposure of self-tanners for 2 weeks prior to your appointment.
-
Discontinue topical retinols 7 days prior to your appointment.
-
Come to your appointment with no makeup on your face. We think you’re beautiful without it and we will just have to wash it off anyway 😉 Eye make-up is ok.
-
Inform your provider if you have a history of cold sores around your mouth to receive advice on antiviral therapy prior to treatment. (Valtrex or acyclovir 500 mg, twice a day for 1-2 days before and 3 days after treatment)
POST-TREATMENT
-
Please use ONLY the provided post-care for 7 days after your treatment
-
Avoid sun and over-heating for 7-14 days after your treatment. Please be fastidious about using provided SPF.
-
Skin may appear red and swollen and have a mild sunburn sensation. This is a normal reaction. It can last from a few hours to days after treatment. Applying a cold compress for the first 24 hours will help minimize swelling.
-
If feeling super dry, Aquaphor may be applied to dry areas
-
Resume your usual skincare recommended by your aesthetician day 7 post-treatment. Retinol use may resume 7-10 days post-treatment.
-
Subsequent treatments may be scheduled once healing is complete or 2-4 weeks after last treatment.

PEEL post-treatment
Post-Peel can be very itchy. You may use 1% hydrocortisone cream to help with the itch and if you tolerate Benadryl (diphenhydramine), try 25mg of Benadryl every 8 hours. This may make you sleepier than usual. Peeling typically starts day 3 or 4 and lasts a couple days. Avoid picking!! Do not pull of the flaking skin. Let if fall off. Additionally, the amount of peeling does not reflect the efficacy of the peel.
MICRONEEDLING
post-treatment
Redness will resolve in 1-2 days. Light flaking is not uncommon on day 3-4 but does not always happen. Results of microneedling are not visualized for 4-6 weeks and multiple treatments will be necessary for ideal results.
LASER
post-treatment
Freckles and sunspots may turn slightly darker initially and then flake off within 7-14 days. This is a desired and normal reaction.
